I recently updated my Nero Express to version 6.6.1.4 and I successfully burned one vcd with no problems at all, but when I tried to compilate another one (either VCD or SVCD) window (2k) says "nero.exe has generated errors...", while with other options like audio, data or DVD video that doesn't happen.

I didn't install any new software, didn't change the configuration or make any significant alteration in my system, so I'm totally lost here.

I even uninstalled Nero (with the proper cleaning tool and 2 registry cleaners) and reinstalled it, with the same results.

I wrote to Nero technical support about a week ago but so far they haven't contacted me. I tried reading the nerohistory.txt file but what I little understand of it, it seems to be a registry permission problem (even with administrator rights on), but I'm not sure. It might be something else. Please help me!

Have you only tried making a disc using the same files or have you tried different files? It could just be an issue with the files you are trying to convert/burn.

Try the ms installer cleanup tool ... seems there might be an issue with the registry permission setting ...

I can't even choose the file I'm gonna burn, the compilation window closes at the same time the error message appears (and sometimes it doesn't, the message just pops up after I click on the VCD or SVCD option in Nero StartSmart).

I'm gonna give it a chance to the MS tool, though I used Nero's own cleaning tool and everything resulted in the same... But what if it's an issue with the registry?

I expect the ms tool is to correct a registry issue. If that doesn't work...

Actually I'm a little afraid to use that tool after I read the especifications, it says that it might risk other programs and have to reinstall them. It is a bit dangerous to use that tool, isn't it?

So I ckicken out and used Nero's cleaning tool again instead. I thought, 'maybe I did something wrong last time'. Well, it worked! What was different this time around? Before, I uninstalled Nero normally (from Windows) and THEN used the tool. I know, it was totally stupid. This time I used the tool first, then reinstalled Nero and now (S)VCD is functional again.

Thanks for your help, it was really appreciated!
