    do you label the track the year it was released or when the compilation CD is released?

    This bothers me a bit, as I have some remastered CD's too.

    I'd say that's personal preference. If its a redone track either enhanced or added to I'd use the compilation date. If its just the original track put on another album I'd use the original release date.

    I got a few compilations with material unreleased from the 80's, I don't know what to label it as.

    Which is more important to you? Publish date or creation date? I'd guess creation date so pick the date it was first created not issued.
