I'm using FFMPEG to convert small (sub 50MB) clips to FLV. What are the best settings to use? Obviously a higher bitrate helps (how high) but what else?

Also, VP6 encoding isn't supported in ffmpeg right?

Yep, it isn't supported. I use Macromedia Flash for my encodings, it uses vp6....but it's not free. I haven't tested ffmpegs flv encoding.

    Baldrick,

Thanks for the reply, you say you use flash but can you run that from a command-line somehow? I need to be able to work with my encoder via PHP.

    Thanks!

Actually, VP6 support was apparently recently added in ffmpeg. I'm not sure of the exact date, but I think it was somewhere in mid- or late September.

edit: Searching the forums, I found that the date VP6 support was added was supposedly September 11. (referencing this outside post)

it was? then I must test it.

edit: I found "VP6 video decoder" in the ffmpeg changelog...but not encoding...

Yeah, from my research I haven't heard of encoding ability in ffmpeg. So i'm assuming you can't use flash to convert to flv from the command line.

Hmm, okay. celtic_druid would probably know more about it than I, anyway. Though not having the ability to encode does sound about right... supposedly some issues On2 had with the third-party software out there, if I remember correctly.

VP5/6 decoding was added. Encoding isn't supported however shodan (?) released a package that uses avs2avi to do commandline encoding to a VP62 avi and then ffmpeg to remux to flv. Not sure if there are any offical flv/VP62 cli encoders. Guess that is why sites like youtube stick with FLV1.

Now that the decoder has been reverse engineered it would be possible for someone to create an encoder. Making on that was upto the speed and quality of On2's is a different matter though.

Sorenson Media Squeeze fully supports VP6 encoding and it is included in the package and requires separate registration which I don't have ATM

Hi, this is my first message, and I will be very happy if anyone could help me (I´m in a real hurry!).

I need to know if Flix Pro is command-line automatizable and if it supports batch enconding.

Anyway I will open a new thread for this.

    Thanks.
