    I have converted a movie with this procedure using virtualdub
    first

    1.open video(avi)
    2.go to audio ->full processing ->compression ->Lame mp3 32000hz 96kbps CBR stereo then ok and ok.
    3.go to video ->full processing ->compression ->XVid MPEG-4 Codec ->Configure
    In confiuration,First i choose "two pass-2pass" then goto calc. and give targect size "481280 kb"(470 MB), container "AVI-OpenDML",Audio "mp3-CBR 96" and then ok now after this i choose "Two pass-1pass" and ok.
    4.Goto file ->save AVI ->give the file name A and then ok.
    5.Now it starts processing.
    6.After processing,I goto video ->compression ->XVid MPEG-4 Codec ->Configure ->select "twopass-2pass" and ok ok.
    7.Goto File ->Save AVI ->again give the file name A it ask to overWrite i said YES
    8.Again its starts processing but

    when it finished ,the resultant file size is 511 mb greater than my requirement and the sound is horrible.

    Plz tell me where i doing mistake .I like very much the video quality of virtualdub.Plz help me,i will be very thankful to you

    I have use another software with 64kbps 44100 hz audio setting and the audio is fine but the software donot satisfy me in video quality.

    Why are you saving the file twice?
    He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

    First off - I'm afraid I cannot think of a reason why it is not hitting the desired filesize. I would normally use AutoGK (which uses virtualdubmod) for this task. It has not failed me to date.

    IMHO 64-96kbps is extremely low quality MP3, but I guess if that floats your boat ...

    One trick you'll learn is that you don't have to run the first pass before configuring the 2nd pass - simply tick the "Don't run this job now; add it to job control so I can run it in batch mode" tickbox on the Save dialog when saving both the 1st and 2nd passes and then you can go to File > Job Control, click Start and it should do the first pass and then the 2nd pass straight afterwards.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. steveryan's question is valid. If his workflow is to believed (which it isn't, as he saves the 2nd pass before the first pass), he's setting up the complete process twice, setting up 2 passes twice. And as you said, jimmalenko, the audio he makes doing this is garbage. Since you evidently don't believe in reading guides to teach you how to do it right, djdrugdealer, I'd suggest letting AutoGK do the whole thing for you.

    I interpeted it as he was choosing 2 pass - 2nd pass just so that the bitrate calc shows and then was choosing 2 pass - 1st pass before OK-ing out. So in effect the net result is just doing the 1st pass.

    But I could be wrong

    So in effect here is what you should be doing (in your own words):

    1.open video(avi)
    2.go to audio ->full processing ->compression ->Lame mp3 32000hz 96kbps CBR stereo then ok and ok.
    3.go to video ->full processing ->compression ->XVid MPEG-4 Codec ->Configure
    In configuration, First i choose "two pass-1pass".
    4.Goto file ->save AVI ->give the file name A and then ok.
    5.Now it starts processing.
    6.After processing, I goto video ->compression ->XVid MPEG-4 Codec ->Configure ->select "twopass-2pass" then goto calc. and give target size "481280 kb"(470 MB), container "AVI-OpenDML",Audio "mp3-CBR 96" and then ok and ok.
    7.Goto File ->Save AVI ->again give the file name A it ask to overWrite i said YES
    If in doubt, Google it.

    welcome to the forum

    That calculator is pretty lame. Regardless of the video length the time in hours:minuteseconds does not update. You must manually enter them in each time. Maybe you forgot or didn't enter in the video time and that is what messed it up. I don't know.

    You need to download a good bitrate calculator you like or use your brain and a standard calculator. Calculating bitrates isn't that hard.

    Although you didn't say but for your example file of 470MB with 96Kbps audio at 1 hour video length the bitrate would be 988Kbps. For 1:30 it's 623Kbps.

    With a good calculator you won't like that lame Xvid calc anymore. lol

    Ive been using Ecuador's AVI Bitrate Calculator v 2.91 for a long time now and I like it better than any Ive tried.

    Good luck.

    Or I could be. Rereading the post after your explanation, jimmalenko, I think you interpreted it right, and I read it wrong. I don't know about steveryan. I apologize for contradicting you.

    The output filesize looks like its being retained even when selecting 2pass-1st pass from the drop down list box before exiting the configuration dialogue. Its greyed out, but still entered correctly. When returning to change it to 2pass-2nd pass it is still retained, so I don't think it matters when the calculation is done, before the 1st pass or after it, the end results should be the same. Or it sure looks like it anyway.

    With that calc if you don't enter the exact length of the file in hours:minuteseconds the calculator can't figure the audio correctly and this may be why the finished filesize is larger than desired. Just a thought

    Good luck.
