  1. I am desperately trying to rencode a project from Premiere with subtitles via Virtualdub.

The original file is 720 x 576 and 16:9, but virtual dub is exporting as 720 x 576 (5:4) so I am getting two black stripes down the side of the film.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Please help.

    Susan.

  3. VirtualDub and AVI don't really support aspect ratios. Individual codecs within an AVI file can but the downstream editor/player has to know how to extract that information. In the absence of aspect ratio information the player/editor will usually assume square pixel -- hence the 5:4 AR you are seeing. You should be able to override what an editor thinks about the aspect ratio of a source video. This is often done by right clicking on a video in the timeline and selecting Aspect Ratio or Video Properties, or some such.

  4. Thnaks for the replies. Sorry I didnt respond but was desperately trying to sort, and I did.

Answer is to get Mainconcept dv codec. The other codecs cannot do it. Costs a few quid, but a very powerful and excellent quality.

  5. Cedocida is another DV encoder that supports AR flags and it's free.
