  1. I have been trying to shrink a dvd-9 to dvd-5 using the deep analysis feature of dvd shrink. When I try this I keep on getting errors and cannot complete the analysis or encode. However, I can shrink the dvd without using the "deep analysis" feature. Any suggestions why this might happen? Can anyone recommend another program that shrinks dvds just as well?

Can you be a little more specific about what the errors actually are ? Your post is way too vague at present to get any really useful answers.

You might also include how you ripped the disc (or created) in the first place, as this may have some bearing on the type of errors you are getting.

DVD Rebuilder with HCenc is free, and much higher quality than Shrink in many instances, however it is substantially slower as it re-encodes rather than transcoding the video. DVD Rebuilder can also use Rejig, which can transcode and so should take a similar amount of time as Shrink.

  3. I actually forgot what the errors were, so I will run the dvd through the process again and post the exact errors.

I used dvd decrypter to rip the dvd. Everything plays fine but for some reason I can't shrink it.

  4. So I analyzed the dvd and dvd shrink came up with the following error: Programming error-exception occrured, the parameter is incorrect. This also caused dvd shrink to crash.

If it is a new disc, DVD Decrypter on it's own may not be enough to beat the copy protection. RipIt4Me uses DVD Decrypter, but first creates a map of the disc telling DVD Decrypter where the protection is situated. DVD Decrypter rips around the protection, leaving a damaged disc on your HDD. RipIt4Me than uses FixVTS to repair the disc, before loading it into DVD Shrink.

I would suggest you have a damaged rip, which is why Shrink is having problems. Sometimes Shrink just refuses outright to load such a rip, other times it just chokes later on in the process.

Try ripping again with RipIt4Me, or the latest DVD Fab Decrypter (and then run it through the latest FixVTS)
