Are you using the latest Toast 6.1.1 - it fixes some QuickTime 7 issues.

How are you burning in Toast? Trying to make a DVD-Video?

Do you have a link to the web site with the videos so others could try to reproduce the error?

No, the videos are downloaded to my computer, no need for link. Burning in Toast 6.1, DVD Video, very simple......

It is obvious it needs a bit of massaging to get the files
"QT" compliant for Toast to do its job.

if it is WMF, I don't think there's much you can do,
as most WMFs are WM9 or WM10 files.

    Step 1.
Drop the file into ffmpegx. Pay close attention to what
it says as far as video and audio codecs used in the file.

    Step 2.
Try converting it to a ffmpegx based Divx AVi file.
(Default) if it chokes, then it is a codec in the WMF
    giving you fits.

    Step. 3
if it produces a DIVX based avi, open it in QT.
Make sure you have audio and video by playing it.

    Step 4.
Drag and Drop that into Toast 6.11 ( 7.1 if you can afford it,
as it is more robust and timely at getting things converted
    from DIVX).

    Step 5. Burn.

Repeat these steps for your .mov file, or substitute
QT Pro for ffmpegx, if it will recognize the audio
and video codecs necessary to play back the file.
If so, then export out as a QT movie file or an
avi file using either Animation, 3ivx (HQ) or MPG4
for video, AIFF 16bit 48khz for audio.

thanks terry, went to download that, but also says, you must also download, this coder and that coder and few other coders, and don't know if it's all worth it. Have any other app more simple?

without knowing the codecs in your two files, no.

what does using VLC result, information wise?
( Launch VLC. Open file in VLC. Select Window-->Information.
Read what it says under Streams 0, 1, and 2)

What's there to know is you only know the CONTAINER file
format ( the end result) and you don't know what is the
CODEC ( the 1 + 1 =2) that must be used to properly:

    a. Handle the file
    b. transcode the file
    c. play back the file

Just becasue it says its a WMV container file, doesn't mean it
can't have the need for say, an ms-mpeg4 codec to
properly play/transcode the file into what you want,
a DVD video disc. Without that knowledge, you won't ever
be able to figure out HOW to get it to DVD and avoid the errors
    your getting.

    read further here:

    WMV container
    MOV container

then post back and we can further help you.

1/ Toast 5/6 has been known to choke on converting MOVs with extra tracks, e.g. subtitles, giving error -2009. Exporting the file with QuickTime Pro would make the file more compatible.
2/ Toast uses QuickTime for decoding, so WMVs may be unsupported.
3/ MOVs and WMVs can have copy protection to prevent you from converting the file at all. Error -50 could be such a permission error.
4/ Other issues may be present, but there is not much use speculating without more detail on the files, like codec names and codec versions. We're not psychic, we won't know until you tell us.

again, we can't tell you until you give us more info on the codecs.

This will be my last bit of advice for you, until
you tell us WHAT CODECS THE FILES CALL FOR.

You can try and go to flip4mac and install the flip4mac
converter for you WMV file to open in QT Pro.

    But once you do it,
you REALLY NEED TO GIVE US ONE OF THESE FOR
EACH FILE, BY PERFORMING A CMD-i IN QUICKTIME PRO:

"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

I use flip for mac to view on computer, but this thread is just about getting those files onto a DVD that works in DVD player.

    LOOK at this:

    BTW:
what is difference beween .mov and .mpg (are they both Apple's quicktime method of viewing video?)

    ALRIGHT!
    Now were'on the same page!!!!

The first video is an MPEG-1 File, what would be used to
make Video CDs in the olden days.
It is muxed video and audio, so until we demux it, we have know way of knowing what's in it.

We're gonna skip around that though.
Download MpegStreamclip, and SO LONG AS YOU
    HAVE THE QUICKTIME MPEG Component,
you should be able to transcode it to an AVI,
at 360 x 240 (half DVD size) with AIFF audio.
Select the Apple Motion JPEG codec, and it will
spit out a compatible avi file that Toast will like.

Rinse and repeat for Clip Three.

These two will fit onto one DVD at high quality.
    (total run time of 37mins)

The Second file, is using the WMA audio codec
and the WMV Image codec for video, which is
similar to Apple's Graphics codec. A real
generic codec good for graphics but not really
    good for video.

Since you have flip4mac installed, export from
Quicktime Pro as a Quicktime .mov file,
choose AIFF for the audio, and choose Motion JPEG-A
for the Compressor, medium to high quality
(depending on what the movie looks like).
Set the size to half dvd ( 360x 240) and when
Toast goes to upscale it, the amount of data should fit onto
the DVD, with the other two files, at a runtime of 47mins.
    ( 84 minutes or 1hr24mins total)

This file will be large, heck they both will be large,
but they will be Quicktime compliant, and
shouldn't give Toast fits upon converting to DVD.
"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

    thanks!
    What is muxed?
when you say what's in it you mean it's a container.
It's hard to get my head around that. I think that it's a video file and ready to play. hard to get that.

what does "have the mpeg quicktime component" mean?

ok, I'm going to try this and report back

    my bad, I saw 47sec as 47mins, that'swhat I get for typying
and talking on my cell at the same time!

    MUXED--go go here

just ""think" that it is a valid video file, but that you need the
proper "codec" to play back what it CONTAINS.
    Much easier that way....!
    :-

Having the mpeg quicktime component---go here
necessary for QT Pro to play most MPEGs, including
DVD rips, Video CD mpeg-1 files, and to transcode
the same using QTbased programs like Toast and MpegStreamclip.

Click the link that in green that says return to Store.
When you get back to the apple store, in the search field
    type "Quicktime mpeg-2".

While the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is a fine addition to the toolbox of any Mac OS video enthusiast, it isn't needed for handling MPEG-1 files. For MPEG-1, a component is included in a standard QuickTime install. You can find it at: /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeMPEG.component

  23. unfortunately there isn't a 1 stop solution for converting the myriad of video files to play on a dvd player and Toast doesn't always work as advertised, i suggest the following as a minimum for your video tool box:

QT pro, flip4mac, mpegstreamclip, mpeg2works, toast 7, isquint, divx codecs

i have all of the above and can get almost all the clips i come across to play on my dvd player...

    pz, add:
    ffmpegx
    the Perian Codec
    and
    3ivx codec
otherwise I agree with you 100%.

    Case:
    true my friend.
I was just suggesting it because if he ends up using MpegStreamclip at all later down the line, he'll be glad
    he has it.

Ok, I got some success. the wmv looked much worse that the mov.

mpegstream line worked nice, chose first apple motion. But neither had sound. no sound coming from DVD.

Quicktime pro was puzzling in there were not two seperate drop-downs for audio and sound, but one where you chose one or the other. I chose for the movie.
