hi everybody , was wondering if anyone knows of a freeware tool that i can use to cleanup
some records that i have recorded onto my pc before putting them on cd ?
i only have 6 lps that i want to digitize so was hoping there is a free solution available or maybe a shareware tool that is fully functional but maybe just time limited so i can do these 6 records before the trial expires , i wish record companys would just release all their back
catalogs on cd so i didn't have to bother with this hooha! i've already replaced the rest of my vinyl with cd's but i can't find these particular recordings on cd.
many thanks in advance and sorry about the long winded post.

Audacity has a click removal filter.

Ah... this takes me back... Years ago I found a real-time effects tool that would do real-time declicking of your audio feed. You could monitor your record player thru your computer, declick, then send it out to the stereo (there was something like 30ms delay). My old copy won't work on XP x64 I'm running... Anyone know of any current tools to do this (freeware or not)? Most record collectors I know would dig such a tool...

  4. Goldwave is free for the first 3000 commands I think, which may be enough to get through 6 LPs. Audacity may be just as good - never used it.

Most will also let you drill down to 1/100 of a second or so to let you individually delete the real loud whoppers or the ones that occur at quiet points in the music. I use Goldwave pop removal on "passive" setting which doesn't cut into your treble so much, and then go after big pops individually.

I doubt there's any perfect filter.

GrooveMechanic has a 15 day fully functional eval. It's pretty good.

  7. Hello, Hamilton!

Could you please let me know the titles and artists of the LP's that you haven't been able to find on CD's? I have decades of experience in the CD collecting department - including rare, obscure, and so forth - so perhaps I can give you a hand.

    Best of luck,
