I am using Nero Burning ROM 6.6 I am trying to burn a mp3 cd-r for my car. I notice that it does not let me re-order the mp3s in Nero ISO mode. It just assigns them in alphabetical order automatically. But when I play it in my car, the artists are assigned from A to Z, but sometimes the songs themselves are NOT in alphabetical order. Why is that? I checked and the files titles are all spelled correctly. It sometimes just jumbles them up.

The files are all re-named on my hardrive in the computer. I even went into Winamp and renamed all the ID3 v1 and ID3 v2 tags to be identical. I enabled both v1 and v2.
This is the order I burn it in Nero. All these songs are by "The All-American Rejects" (I spelled it exactly the same for each mp3)
1) 11:11 PM
2) Can't Take It
3) Change Your Mind
4) Dance Inside
5) Dirty Little Secret
6) It Ends Tonight'
7) Paper Heart
8 ) Too Far Gone
9) Top of the World
But when I play it in my Eclipse deck, it will list the songs in this order for some reason:
1) Top of the World (why is "T" before anything else?)
2) 11:11 PM
3) Change Your Mind
4) Dirty Little Secret
5) It Ends Tonight'
6) Paper Heart
7) Too Far Gone
8 ) Can't Take It (Why isnt this before "Change Your Mind??)
9) Dance Inside (Should be before "Dirty Little Secret)
It's like my deck reads it one way, but Nero reads it another way. Is it not enough to change the ID tags in Winamp?
All the other songs seem to line A thru Z by artist but these...... -
To me, it looks like a space before the T in Top of the World?
That doesn't explain Can't take it and Dance Inside last...
No further ideas, really...

Does it happen on all discs or only on one?
I had something similar happen to me once, I made a CD with a number of mp3 folders (album rips). No ID-tag, just filenames (track 01 etc). For some obscure reason the mp3-player in my car starts with track 05 in every folder, continues in the right order until the last one and then plays track 1 to 4 before going to the next folder. I made a new disc with exactly the same folders (they are all located on my hard disk) and it plays like it should. I used Nero 6 for both of them.
I wrote that one off as belonging to the X-files. It has never happened again. -
When I align the songs it Nero, it automatically assigns them in alphabetical order. It's in my Eclipse Deck, it rearranges it in the above order for some reason. I wonder if it is some tags I have to rename other than the ones in Winamp (where I click on the song and right click, properties and ID tags). Whats the difference b/t ID3 v1 and ID3 v2?
traskmannen,
it happens on most discs, and its always the same songs with the same artists. For some reason. -
are you sure your player doesnt 'align' them alphabetically?
The only mp3 player i use sometimes is my car player, and i can set it to play songs in various ways (as burnt by 'tracks', by 'titles' = alphabetically, etc etc)
I use nero 6 too, and dont have such problem.
id3v1 is more limited (less characters in each tag and less tags in general) than id3v2
i never use id3v1 because so many titles/artists are truncated -
I have both id3 v1 and id3 v2 filled out the exact same way....do you think it gets it confused? Maybe I should just check id3v2 and UNCHECK id3v1? or do u think it doesnt matter.

DereX888,
My player does try to align them alphabetically. But if you look at my post above, it doesnt make sense how it aligned the songs. The artist is the same, the number of spaces is identical.
Is there something behind the scenes that I am not seeing? Just because I rename the id3 tags in winamp, does it REALLY change the title or do I have to use a special program for it? -
It depends, I guess, on whether or not the programs/radios are using the ID3 tags to identify/sort the songs (especially if they sort by the ID3 tags and completely disregard the filenames).
One thing you can always try, is to blank out the ID3 tags, make sure the filenames are the way you want them, and see how Nero and the radios sort them, then.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Well, too many variables to consider here to give you some right answer/help.
Perhaps try this first to find out is it setting in your player or your burner software:
play the same disc on different player and see how it plays - if it goes 01>02>03... then you'll know its playback setting of your player. If it oes alphabetically again - then you'll know its something with the burning method you use.
I always name my files that way:
Folder name: [Artist Name - YEAR Album Title]
Song Title: [01. Song Title]
and for compilations:
Folder name: [VA - YEAR Album Title]
Song titles: [01. Artist - Song Title]
and all my files have always complete ID3v1 & ID3v2 infos, with fixed track number in ID3v1 (01 instead of 1, 02 instead of 2, etc).
That way, no matter what any player prefers to read (ID3v1, ID3v2, filenames) they always play my discs in the correct order, including correct order of albums as they were released (by YEAR) in case of a single artist's collection
I remember one of my old discmans didn't read ID3 tags at all, so it was going by the filenames, i.e. if the song titles didn't have 01., 02., 03... at the begining of the title - then it always played them out of original order in an alphabetical way instead (looks like similar to your problem, doesn't?).
Other player I had was only playing according to track numbers in the ID3v1 tag, and if there were more than 9 tracks it used to play them out of order too (i.e. if there were 12 tracks in total it would go: 1>10>11>12>2>3>...) because most of the tagging programs dont add leading zero in the track numbers below track 10 in ID3v1 tag.
And there is many more little things like this among players, so yeah, I actually would bet the wrong playback order is most likely related to either your player's limitations, or its settings. -

what is RTFM? I dont know how to see how it plays normally, but looking through all the other artists and songs, they are ordered alhpabetically by artist, then alphabetically by song. With the exception of All American Rejects. Do you think it could be a renaming issue or something hidden i cannot see in the file?

RTFM = read the freaking manual
