I was wondering if someone can tell me about how to use RedStar 230AP DVD player with 5.1 speaker system. Is there any connectors or some device available which can connect these two? Even though I am really very satisfied with this DVD player which plays almost all the region media, but somehow I am not able to fully digest this drawback, that there is no direct provision for 5.1 speaker system connectivity.
I will really appreciate if someone could write a solution for this.
Many thanks

If it doesn't have audio coax or optical digital output jacks or a series of separate audio jacks (5, I think) for 5.1 output, probably not. Even then, you would need a surround sound amplifier.
I'm assuming it just has the red and white stereo out or just two speaker outputs?
Someone else here might be more familiar with that unit.
And welcome to our forums.
BTW, the default black text is a little easier on everyone's eyes. -
Thanks Redwudz for the reply. You are right, its red and white out. there are 4 of them actually. 2 white and 2 red.
And yes there are coaxial and optical out as well. But I dont know what to do with them and/or how to make it work. Thanks for the welcome and ya I made the text color black.
I still dont have the clue to use it. If there is someone who can help?
Many Thanks -
Basically, Redwudz has laid it out for you.
If your 5.1 speaker system has a decoder in the subwoofer, as some do, and you can connect via coax or optical to it, and it acts as an amp for the rest of the speakers, then that is your answer.
If your speaker setup does not have an amp and decoder as part of the kit, you need to buy one.
That's it. Of course, the manual is probably the best place to start - what outputs does it say it has ?Read my blog here.

Thanks guns1inger for the precise answer. No my 5.1 does not have a decoder and amp. The Manual is showing diagrams (1 in the pic attached) for output to TV and Audio and stuff but not precisely for 5.1. It has optical and coax out.
If that is the case what should I buy and which brand?
Please help.
Many Thanks

I hope someone is still there who can give answer to my problem.
Many Thanks. -
From what I see and guess, you would need to purchase a surround sound amplifier. If you have regular speakers (And not computer type 5.1 powered, amplified speakers) you would just hook them up to the amplifier and use either the coaxial or optical audio outputs from the DVD player to get the signal to the amplifier. The amplifier then decodes it to 5.1 and distributes it to the respective speakers. You would have a left and right, and a center, and a rear left and right. That's the 5.1. It may also have an output to a subwoofer for the low frequency sounds.
BTW, coaxial audio is the easiest. You can use a common RCA cable for that with rarely any problems. The optical is good for avoiding noise, but no real difference between the quality of the two most of the time and can cost a fair bit more for the cable. -
Thanks Redwudz for the help. I really appreciate.
I will work on it.
Many Thanks.
