I am really confused about which Source Aspect Ratio to use when encoding a dvd rip in AVI format to MPG format for burning to a VCD or SVCD. I am mostly talking about movies here, so I assume that a wide screen setting would be appropriate. But during the encoding they all looked like eggheads! Please enlighten a newbie...

  2. I am a slight newbie as well, but it is my understanding that the Source Aspect Ratio should be 1:1 VGA if your source file is divx... your output aspect ratio should be 4:3 if you plan to watch it on a television.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

  3. Will that give the letterbox? I would like to see my stuff in widescreen format. Anyone know if that's possible?

Thanks Ghost, I'll try that. Although it doesn't exactly make sense to me. If one is ripping a DVD to an AVI file, that shouldn't make the Source Aspect Ratio 1:1...
