  1. Just got a Lite On SHM-165H6S. I can read and write + - DVD's, CD's and use Light Scribe. But I can only read DVD+ - RW's. I can't erase them to write on. I'm using Nero 6.6.0.17 that came with the drive. Help. Thanks.

Although I don't always advocate this, have you checked to be sure you have the latest firmware? Maybe the old stuff was buggy.

check out the codeguys website for LITEON drives.

have you tried using other burning programs to erase the DVD-/+ RW media? DVD DECRYPTER can erase rw media.

  5. Tried Nero, DVD Decrypter and DVD Info and none work. They work for my Plextor 712.
    Used a Maxell 1x and a Fuji 4x.

  6. Hmm,well I have a LiteOn SHM-165P6S (Non Lightscribe) with codeguys (MS0M - stock) firmware and it reads and rips great.Good CD/DVD error correction and fast DAE speed.I only use it for ripping because it's writing quality is awful IMHO,that's where the LG GSA 4167B comes in.The LiteOn is also nice for disc quality scans with K-Probe.

As mentioned, try CodeGuys LiteOn SHM-165H6S (HS07 -Stock) firmware flasher

  7. That's a strange problem. I use dvd-rw a lot on my 165H6S but strangely I can't recall erasing one. I primarily use rw for transfers from a set-top dvd recorder and reformat/erase on the set top unit. Does this behavior happen on new media that was originally recorded with the 165H6S or just media previously written on another burner?

  8. New and used media. I can't write anything, but they work in my Plextor.

  9. Just received another burner from Newegg and everything works. This is the 3 one and built in March 06 the other 2 that didn't work for dvd-rw +or- were built Feb 06.
