My First Post so pls be gentle.

As great as the multitude of endless compression schemes are they are difficult to edit.

There must be an Application that will Demux a Mpeg1 + Mpeg2 + Divx Xvid & there variants Interlaced or Progressive streams to something thats Simple & Framed based that Adobe Premiere Pro can use - Perhaps like DV or EVEN RAW (yes Im that desperate)

when I import several different type clips onto the timeline Some will encode OK while others are choppy/break up or basically a mess.

    Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou

    i think you mean re-encode , not demux ...

    big diff...

big time to do so .....

why not use a NLE that accepts most or all these formats in the first place ?

Your right on both counts. However premiere is my preferred choice.

Since my post I have tried Virtualdub again & it seems a lot friendlier than I remembered. It seems to work nicely - So I give it a try & see how that goes
