    Could try this

Until now i havent encoutered a divx file that doesnt play or that i cant make it to play. Bleach, movies or anything plays just fine. If it doesnt play or like bleach files that only plays for 6 secs. You just have to modifie it download the MPEG4 Modifier from http://www.moitah.net/ check the unpack bitstream and there u go problem solved. It takes less then 10sec for a 24min anime ep, it basicly just change a little thing in the coding. It such simpel thing, rly lazy that sony didnt ad something to fix this. Or maybe they didnt want it to work... T___T

This was a post I found on another forum as I have a similar problem but the files I tested didnt have a packed bitstream anyway, may work for you as it shows a packed bitstream.

Actually, I'm not sure the PS3 has a problem with packed bitstream. It didn't mind any of the test files with packed bitstream I used, anyway.

I have checked my files and likewise some files work with packed bitstream so that cant be the killer. I am desperate for a simple solution to this. I want a procedure to run thorugh to standardise the file without any encoding. Dont mind if it takes a while but I dont want to lose anymore quality, I find a lot bad enough already.

I got advised to run the file through auto gk and select the option for standalone compatibility which I did but the quality did seem to suffer to me but hard to tell on pc monitor, my tv is 1080p plasma 42inch so need as much quality as poss. This also took over an hour and a half to complete a 40 min clip so must have reencoeed.

I have just posted this question in another thread but is there a way to demux/remux the file in a different container or format to make the ps3 play it without further encoding. (that might be a stupid question but not sure about this step)

Unlikely that's going to happen. If it can't be played, the solution will be to re-encode it into a format that does play.

    Yes, as AutoGK reencodes.

Probably not. But you could try simply loading the AVI in VirtualDubMod, and save out a new version of it, using Direct Stream for both audio and video. It's a quick procedure, doesn't reencode, and may fix this, if the problem is not how the video/audio is encoded, but (the off chance) how the AVI is put together.

I did read that this process worked when file says cant be played and gives an error number not when corrupt. It did work for that but I havent tried it for this but i will give it a go.
