  1. I'm trying to stream an xvid video to xbox360, but it fails. I googled some and came up with that the proble is either that it is AC3 or the bit rate is too high. Is that correct?

What tool can I use to check the bit rate and if it's AC3?

I'm trying to stream from miniDLNA server, if that makes a difference.

Use Mediainfo to identify bitrate and audio codec. Then compare with the ones that work.

  3. Thanks!

I did what you suggested. Here is the info on the file.

The bit rate seems high compared to another avi I have that works. Does anyone know what bit rate xbox supports and a program to convert to lower bit rate?

my video server is running on the dd-wrt router. Not on Windows. I don't like to keep my PC on, so I have the router do the dirty work.

Before I was poorer, I converted my DVDs to divx/xvid and ac3 to stream via a network share. Worked fine. Then I became $129 poorer after buying a WDTV Live ... which can be had for $79 now. So you can solve you problems with becoming only $79 poorer and not having to convert anything.

  9. Problem is solved. I had to restart the DLNA server a few times until I got it to work. I thought it was a client issue with the xbox because another video worked, but it was the server after all. Now everything is working smoothly. Now when will xbox support x264 :P

  11. yeah I am old fashioned that :/ But I think I meant mkv. Is the popular HD format?

And does h.264 only support 2 channel audio? I think I'm only seen 5+ channel H2.64.

Yup, you see that right. Only 2 channel for h264. One of the major reasons I went to a WDTV Live media player. Converting my DVDs to divx and retaining AC3 (yes, it does support it) was easy. Now it's retain all video, audio and subtitles with the WDTV Live for DVDs and BluRay.
