    Hi

I hope somebody can help me out here, I’m new to video cards and I’ve just installed an NVidia GeForce2 MX400 (mobo is Via) , and TV OUT only works on the “Composite” output, nothing on the TV when I connect with S-VHS cable. My first question….when setting up the video card, is there a special setting for VHS cable?
Next question is on quality: an AVI file played on computer looks really sharp(VLAN player) and on the TV it loses a lot of detail, very blurred, more-or-less VHS standard and text is difficult to make out. If I can somehow get VHS output to work, should picture-quality improve or am I a hopeless optimist? Ive tried different resolutions, no change. Any help much appreciated.

Have you clicked on the the NVidia GeForce2 MX400 tab in Display>Settings>Advanced? I have the NVidia GeForce4 MX4000 card. There should be a popout menu that gives you more settings and a wizard mode to help set it up. (At least with mine there is.) You should have the cable hooked up before you boot the computer for it to recognize the display. And make sure your TV is set to S-video in.

Quality should be good for S-video, but don't expect a TV to work for a computer monitor. Even with the higher quality DVI video on some cards, small print will be hard to read. It should work just fine for video, though.

    Hi redwudz

Thank you for your help and where would some of us be without forums? It takes me so long to reply, sorry….bizzy bizzy. I had all the settings ok, so I suspected either cable or S-video adaptor on tv. I used the s-vid output on dvd player to check cable, nothing, blank screen, but when I changed adaptor I got b/w screen on TV. Not to be deterred, I recoconnected PC and it finally works, quality however only slightly better as with cinch output. I suppose you cant wi n ‘em all, huh? In conclusion if anyone’s interested I found a reasonable guide to nVidia software settings (http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_pc2tv_nvidia.php)
    that might help somebody out.
