Am using a Hauppage 150 card to capture movies on tv with the win 2000 program supplied by Hauppage.
Problem is I want to place them on a single layer DVD.(The file is usually too big).
My procedure is to cut the file down to the bare movie with Ulead DVD Factory 3 and convert into Video files. Then I use DVD Shrink to fit it onto a disc.
Is there an easier/quicker way to convert the file, as Ulead takes a while. I thought as it is already MPG2 I wouldn't need to convert it, but Shrink won't work obviously without DVD files.
Are there any free tools I could use which are quicker, most of the guides use trialware or pay.
I also have Nero 6 on my PC.

    Thanks

    MFM

ps hope I'm not going over old stuff

ReJig can shrink mpg (2) files just like DVDShrink can shrink VOBs.
But the best alternative is to use (and if need be create) a DVD compatible encoder setting that lets you fit what you record on your media of choice (single layer DVD in your case).
It's pretty easy to create a few different settings for WinTV to cater for most circumstances. That way, you can go directly from capturing to author/burn DVD without further processings of your capture.

  3. Here is the approximate playing time that will fit on a single layer DVD with some of WinTV2000's standard settings:

    DVD Standard: 1.3 hours
    DVD Long Play: 1.7 hours
DVD Extra Long Play: 2.7 hours

These results are from my PVR-250. I assume the PVR-150 is similar.

As mats.hogberg said, you can also create your own templates and use them to get more or less time, quality, etc.

If they are already mpeg2's you could do it this way .

Use batch demux to strip video and audio stream's to seperate stream's .
    Convert audio to ac3 , 48khz (no lower than 96kbs) .

Follow this guide : https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=291744 (removal of unwanted material)

    Depending on source :

Use rejig to author vid / audio stream's to vob title for nstc .
    Ifoedit if pal source .

Vobedit to split via cell id .
    Delete non-essential part's .

    Rename first as vts_01_000.vob ... next to vts_01_001 ... next to vts_01_002 ... when in teen's , 10 become's vts_01_010 ...

Use vobedit to open first , then select edit , join clip's , select new folder for output .

Use ifoedit to regenerate the ifo's for title vob just created .
Check video format and audio stream info is correct ... correct if not .
(This apply's to both the video_ts.ifo and vts_01_01.ifo)
Use get vts sector's on both , and save each , yes to overwrite original's .

Use dvdshrink if target to big for current media choice ...
