  2. a. Does your player play SVCD format?
    b. Did you choose create a SVCD in Nero?
    c. Is the SVCD the same format as your video system? IOW NTSC video in NTSC land or PAL video in PAL land or is it NTSC and you are trying to watch in PAL area or the reverse?

Philips DVD players are often fussy about SVCD. They wrote the standard, yet oddly many of their players ignore things in the standard. You should realize that Nero does NOT make compliant SVCDs. They are close enough for most DVD players, but not necessarily all.

    A couple of suggestions.
    1) Try using Nero is regular mode to make the SVCD, not that hand holding Nero Express mode. Use the SVCD template. See what happens. Burn to CD-RW. Nero Express may do some things you don't realize that are causing compatibility problems.
    2) Can you play the disc on your PC? If not, well, the disc is crap.
    3) Try making the SVCD using VCD Easy, which comes much closer to SVCD standards than Nero does.

More details on what you did might be useful. What media you used, how long your video is, what the maximum, minimum and average bit rates are, more info about your audio, whether you did something dumb like burn SVCD data to a DVD disc, etc.
