I was watching my new U2 VERTIGO concert dvd and on a whim switched to PCM. The BASS was way up and I was pretty suprised. The disc has dolby and dts on it but neither were as loud as the lpcm stereo track.
Why would that be?? I have other concert discs and I'm going to experiment. I believe they all have pcm tracks, well most of them anyway.
Anyone have experience in this?

I think PCM audio is not compressed like DD and DTS, could be the reason it sounds louder?

Probably more down to mastering. Just because something is compressed doesn't mean that it can't be loud.

LPCM discs have the bass from all of the channels in 5 .1 setup dowmixed into two channels, for best sound playback on a non-home cinema setup. This is why it sounds so bass heavy - two speakers are handled the same amount of bass that is playing from six speakers in the 5.1 mix
