Here's the deal, I have some vob files, Wrestling to be precise.
And i wanted to convert them to the HIGHEST quality 352x240 mpeg1 file, i use tmpgenc and mainconcept most of the time. the problem is i cant get the quality to be as good as others encode's, when i encode the file i use like 3000CBR and dont get high quality results. All i really want is for a sharp good quality mpeg 1 file , if you have any idea's on how to convert to full quality mpeg1 files please share your idea's. thanks.

BTW the vobs are from a dvd source.

You would be better off doing MPEG-2 at 352x480

The "optimal" bitrate would be a CBR of 4000kbps to 5000kbps but 3000kbps should look OK especially if you do a 2-pass or multi-pass VBR encode. In that case I would suggest a MIN of 1000kbps, an AVG of 3000kbps and a MAX of 5000kbps. For the audio use 192kbps AC-3 format.

If you intend to burn the results to a DVD the above 3000kbps video with 192kbps AC-3 audio will give you just over 3 hours per single layer DVD.

Is it possible for you to up some screenies of your settings in TMPGEnc and/or Mainconcept ? There's a sticky at the top of Newbie/General that may assist you with this.
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVDRipper12, if you must have an Mpeg1 file then...

Mpeg1 files are not limited to 352x240. You can use 640/704/720 x 480 and use a bitrate of at least 2Kbs.

Use VirtualDubMpeg2 to convert the VOB to DV AVI with the Panasonic DV Codec or frame serve to TMPGEnc.

Set up TMPGEnc to encode a Mpeg1 file at XX0/480, 2.5Kbs.

    Regards,

Some thing must be wrong...as a mpeg1 of 352x240 at a VBR over 2000 kbs should be very clear. I have over 100 mpeg1 movies at under 1000 that look great. check out this guide...

it is one of the originals from when I started making VCDs. With out giving us more info...you'll have to try and see where you are going wrong. Basic steps: Rip DVD(smartripper)> Make a d2v and wav from VOBs using DVD2AVI (so that TMPGenc can read the VOBs) >Encode to mpeg1 or 2 using TMPGenc.

DGIndex is an updated version of DVD2AVI so choose DGIndex whenever a guide says to use DVD2AVI.
