My problem covers a few different areas but I will try to simplify was much as possible. Also, I am very inexperienced with video editing and converting. My issues -

I have some .vob files that I am trying to edit (simple chopping edits). My program is Vegas Movie Studio 8.0. The issues that arise are that when saving the files, I am trying to go lossless/uncompressed to maintain the integrity of the files and .avi seems to be the best way to go. For some reason though, when I save a file in avi, it becomes much bigger than even the source .vob file even though it has been chopped up and is fraction of the size. This is important for my hard drive space, saving them on dvds, etc. Is there away to edit .vob files and keep them from increasing in size? Is there a program that deals in this format or is .avi the way to go?

Thanks for helping a newbie out.

VOB files are MPEG2 video....but for DVD(in a DVD structure).
Simple mpeg2 edits are best done with simple programs like MPEG-VCR.

AVI is a whole other story that YOU will need to learn as you go. There are many "flavors" of AVI.....from uncompressed(what you are experiencing) to highly compressed.

Ah. In that case, I think I will stick with mpeg2 for now which might help the size issue. Thank you much.
