  1. Okay heres the problem

I record a videogame using fraps, and I cannot put it into the DivX converter because of the varying framerate. The quality is great. The filesize is 9 gigabytes

I decide to use After Effects to modify and make a movie from it. I render it as an .avi with audio and the quality is still great The filesize is 4 gigabytes.

Now when i put this After Effects rendered video file and compress it using the DivX converter (From 4 gigabytes to about 20 megabytes) The quality turns UGLY. It looks like half the pixels were cut away when it was compressed. Is there any way to stop this from taking away the quality?

  2. sounds like your compressing it too much, what settings are you using in divx? what bitrate, quality settings, ect? this can make a HUGE differance

If it helps, might want to render out of AE in a smaller frame size, consider lower fps. Check tips for different mp4-type encoders including use of alternative matrix, then experiment with short test file.

So let me rephrase your dilema, just to see if it helps.

You have just bought a new camaro, but it is too big for your garage, so you have beaten it down to a smaller shape with a sledge hammer, but now it is kind ungly and lump and doesn't drive very well.

Does that sum it up ?
