You may want to look in the tools section here under "all in one video converters"

If you're trying to convert videos to DivX for a DivX certified player (e.g. PlayStation 3 or a DVD player with USB), you can start with DivX Converter, which you can download for free as part of DivX 7. It supports most formats via DirectShow.

DivX Converter is a simple app allows you to build up a queue so you can convert in batches, but for some formats, you may need to upgrade (e.g. MPEG-2 input). The nice thing about it is that all output is optimized for DivX certified players.

There are more advanced transcoders out there, too, like StaxRip... Handbrake unfortunately dropped AVI support, so StaxRip is a better option for targeting DivX/AVI devices.

  5. Divx Converter is easy to use but it's a pretty crappy program. I usually use AviSynth and VirtualDub but that's probably a bit more than the OP want's to learn.

I should add that no matter which converter or program you are using, you are using about the same Divx codec and that's where most all of the quality and other adjustments are located. Familiarize yourself with it if you want the most control over the output.

That's the problem with Divx Converter -- you have no control. All you can do is pick from a few templates.

Blackstroud, you had 15 days to try converter, if it didn't work for you or you didn't like it, why did you buy it? Also, did you try to get any support on your issue at the DivX Labs forums? Many times, it's a matter of finding the right filters to install for your use case.

DivX Converter is not presented as an advanced transcoder... it's a simple drag/drop GUI to help users get their files to DivX certified players.

As you'll note with all my posts on these forums, I endorse plenty of other tools out there in the community that I think do a better job for more advanced users (like StaxRip, Handbrake, AVI-Demux).

Sorry the app didn't work for you, but luckily there are loads of other tools out there for you to try risk-free, and we at DivX are happy to help people use them to help you to get stuff to play right on your DivX devices (TVs, DVD players, Playstation 3, etc.).

Also, you can take comfort in know that with your DivX 7 download, it included a free H.264 decoder, which is one of the fastest out there, so installing DivX 7 shouldn't have been a complete loss for you.

Again, sorry for disappointing you, but we do our best and know we can't have solutions for everyone.

  11. thanks for the measured response Porfitron.

It did work for a while, and there was support interaction too ... for a while.
No solution forthcoming though. Then, after asking for refund, non-response, and me left feeling somehow cheated.

Have you ever tried avi.net? I've used this program and have been very happy with the results. It does batch convert and you can select between Divx or XviD.

I should have added that avi.net only works with VOB or MPG.

For an All In One converter I have had success with Total Video Converter. This has converted video that other programs just get confused and stop working. Total Video Converter does batch convert with speed and quality.

    Hope this helps?

Given how often you recommend Divx Converter I figured you must work for Divx Inc. I was going to suggest you post a disclaimer but see that you've already done that in your sig (I have sigs and avatars turned off so usually don't see them). LOL

I upgraded to Divx 7 a year or so ago and was a bit disappointed that the h.264 encoder wasn't available as a VFW codec (yes, I know VFW and AVI aren't great for h.264).
