A couple of points, if anyone can help (have tried the Search and How Tos):
- Has anyone used this combination successfully? And, if so, with what results?
- Is there any way of using PAL 720 x 576 caps done with a Pinnacle DC10plus and the Pinn. DV 500 card in Premiere 6? On importing, I get the error
'Unable to open that file. File uses an unsupported compression format.'
(Previously, I've edited my analogue Viewcam footage in Pinnacle's Studio 7 and am only now experiementing with Prem.)
Thanks

Haven't tried/used that combo, but what format is the captured vid? Sounds like Prem just can't find a codec, but give format info & should get many replies.

Sorry, I thought I had given the format info - PAL Viewcam video 8 captured by a DC10plus and the DV 500 cards, at the above res, as an AVI. Have I missed anything out?
Usually, I just open the cap in Studio and archive away. Since I'm trying Prem, both v6 and Elements, it was frustrating to find that it wouldn't import them. (Am now looking at v6.5 to see if that would import it correctly.) -

Neither full Premiere nor Premiere Elements (any version*) support direct editing in MPeg. If MPeg is imported, it must be decompressed and "conformed" to one of the supported Premiere project formats.
* Mainconcept sells a native MPeg project capability as a Premiere Pro plug-in for $250. This will allow native MPeg editing with Premier Pro.

EdDV, many thanks for your detailed answer.
(The second card I was using, by the way, was a DV500 rather than the 'PVR-500' you mentioned, unless they are one and the same under a different name.)
The plug-in you mention is way beyond my budget and only for Pro, which, again, is just a pie in the sky ap for me.
Looks like I won't be able to capture into Elements with the DV500 from what you say. I've only got a few tapes left, in any case, so will complete them in Studio and wait till I'm ready to edit the recent DV material I have from a more modern cam for Prem and/or Elements. -
oops
The Pinnacle DV500 card is supposed to support DV format. Best ask in a Pinnacle forum.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Again, thanks. -
Maybe the DV500 needs special drivers to work with Premiere. You may be stuck with the original Premiere version just like I was with the DC30plus card which got stuck on v5.1.

Thanks, EdDV.
Looks like I am unless anyone posts with a different experience using the card and Prem/Premiere Elements 2.
