Can't play a dvd-audio cd in DTS :(

I obtained a .wav file of Queen in dts format.

I have the hardware with my PC to play DVD movies in dts sound and I obtained a wav file with dts audio but none of my software will play it, not PowerDVD or VLC.

I usually select SPDIF for the output to allow the hardware to do the decoding but it doesn't even give me the option with this dts audio wav file.

The hardware is Creative DDTS-100 decoder. Thanks

Do I need to convert it to something?

Can a .wav file be digital or is it analogue?

If the file format is wav, then it can be in either digital or analog.

Try MPC, select the SPDIF option in MPC (MPC also can decode DTS track with its own decoder)

MPC works for me playing 5.1 channel DTS in wav format.

Downloaded mpc and tried playing it, but still getting fuzz instead of the proper sound, changed the settings for both ac3 and dts to spdif.

Am I missing some codec or filter perhaps?

Try selecting the decoder for MPC (its own codec as below):



Then try playing the file again disabling DDTS-100 (select it as PC). If the file plays fine (which it does for me), then I would say the problem lies with the Creative DDTS 100 decoder.

EVERY file on your (and everybody's) computer is digital. They don't really make ANALOG computers (outside of a lab).

Not really sure where you're going with this, but maybe you meant:
WAV files can be...
1. Linear PCM (where the straight, discreet samples should be synonymous with the decoded analog audio)
2. ADPCM (using bit reduction techniques)
3. various forms of lossless or lossy compression encapsulated in WAV header.

What you (the OP) probably have is a version of #3 or possibly a raw DTS stream (with packing/padding in order to fill out the amount of bitrate expected for a 16bit, stereo, 44100Hz LPCM wave file)--masquerading as a WAV.

Add this "file" as a track on an Audio CD. and play from a settop, via digital out, to a receiver that can decode DTS. I bet it'll play correctly then.

Can your system duplicate the same setup as a settop, AFA DTS stream decoding(you may be asking)? I don't know, but I doubt it.

Sorry. Should have been more clear. What I meant to say was a wav file can be played with speakers connected either via digital or analog connection. Not that the actual file is analog. Just a mistake in my wording.

Just eliminate the DDTS-100 from the connection. Hence, directly connect the PCs sound card output to the speakers without the DDTS decoder. Then do a test to see if the wav file plays correctly with DTS enabled in MPC as shown in the image in my previous post.

where did this audio come from? a dvd-video or a dvd-audio disc? Was it converted from dvd-audio to dts (if that is even possible nowadays). If your title is correct and it came from some dvd format why aren't you just playing it off the DVD if that's where it came from?

You just add it as you would making a normal audio cd.

And yes, even though it is a cd you must still play it on either a dvd player connected to a DTS decoder as any dvd movie with DTS or a cd player that has a digital output to a DTS decoder/rec.

I have made quite a few DTS audio compact disc's.
Surrcode allows you to save in 3 formats,
.dts for audio tracks on dvd movies
.cpt for DTS compact disc's
.wav for a DTS wav file, although i have never used the DTS .wav, just the .cpt for DTS compact audio disc's.

Was it converted from dvd-audio to dts (if that is even possible nowadays).

the handling is the same like normal AudioCD PCM WAVs @16bit44.1KHz produced f.e. by EAC - CUESheet support is also possible and btw the only solution to burn single tracks without gaps between.

how do you handle this format, is it a complete image? or single tracks? how do you set gaps and burn it,
