have a cowon media player that I got for xmas it takes 488 x272 divx file I used avi net last night to convert a 2 hr and 15 min movie of island staring Ewen mcgregor.. It was the first time I ever used avi. net it took 7 hrs and 50 mins is that normal? and it converted the VOB to 640 x 272 can I change the width in the setting to accomadte the media player 488 x272? and will changing the width cut down on encoding time?

Over 7 hours sounds a real long time, too long, but we don't know that for sure as you've not told us what you cpu or speed is..... Did you rip your VOBs correctly, using a program chain?
Yes, you can change the size to whatever you want. Read the avi.NET guide on the web site.
