I am trying to capture from VHS in AVI, edit the captured video, and then send the edited video back out to my Sony TRV130 Digital8 via FireWire link. I am capturing using VirtualDub, WinTV PVR capture card, and editing using Ulead VideoStudio 5. If I try to capture at 720x480, I get half of my frames dropped. I can capture at 352x480 and it captures great. I have not tried to go any further than capturing and editing now. Can someone help me with this? My setup:

700mhz, 60GB dedicated hard drive for video capture (7200 rpms), 128MB memory, Windows 98SE.

    Thanks in advance...

  2. First, make sure you have DMA enabled on your hard drive(s) and run disk defragmenter.
Your process sounds somewhat confusing to me.
Doesn't the TRV130 have analog inputs? If so, you could just capture from VHS through the TRV130 which would convert the video to DV format and pass it through the Firewire link to the PC as a DV AVI file. Since the compression is done in the camera, you should have a lot less problem with dropped frames.
The WinTV PVR card is primarily an MPEG capture card but you said you are capturing in AVI format. What capture codec are you using? If you have to do it this way, I would try Huffyuv lossless codec or PicVideo MJPEG codec at quality level 18 or 19.

The TRV130 doesn't do pass-through conversion. The TRV230 does (and the TRV120 did).
