I am looking at this option. http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html however I need some questions answered.

    1. Would I be able to use this to capture video to my PC without physical capture card/software?

    2. With the IR channel changer will it change the channel I sch on my PC to capture and allow me to watch another show on my actually TV set with my DVR having 2 tuners.

If the answer to number 2 is no, then what might be other options for me?

  2. I have that unit, it's been quite satisfactory.

    1) It comes with Arcsoft TotalMedia Extreme. Capturing is as simple as firing it up, hit Capture Module, set bitrate, duration, and press "Capture". Nothing could be simpler. The included software can also do basic editing (very basic), and authoring to AVCHD disc. The result plays fine in my Sony BDP-S360. If that option is appealing, be aware that not all Blu-Ray players support AVCHD. AFAIK, all current Sony, Panasonic, and LG players do. Samsung is evidently withdrawing support, earlier players were okay, current ones are hit-and-miss. AVCHD support will be in the specs for the particular player.

The included Arcsoft DigitalTheater will play BD, AVCHD, and what have you. And it's a hell of a sight better than PowerDVD.

    2) I couldn't get the damn remote to work. With my last capture device (Winfast HDTVCinema), I never could get that remote to work either. :P I would suggest getting a decent remote that can do the job, like an iMon.
IIRC, the included IRBlaster *CAN'T* integrate with the Arcsoft software anyway, although supposedly it can control "third party" software. So why it's included is beyond me. Anybody want to buy mine? Cheap?

As to the last part, I dunno, I just have an HD cable box.

    Good luck.

    1. Yes

    2. No ...Unless you are watching a ClearQAM channel off the TV tuner. The HD-PVR takes the monitor feed from the cable DVR.

Does your DVR have two component outputs? Without a second component output the HD PVR will only be able to record what you are watching anyway.

Leave the DVR on and tuned to the channel you want to record. Obviously, that will only work for recordings from one channel.
