    Hi
I have recently bought a Sony DCR-HC38 handycam, and now i want to capture the footage onto my laptop! Now i have a Acer Travelmate 3270, but with no fire wire.
Would i be able to capture the video if i purchace a fire Wire adaptor for my laptop? I know i do not have a capture card or a hardcore graphics card! But i was wondering if it is possible? Is there any way that i can capture the footage onto my lap top?
Please any help would be much appreciated!
    Regards
    Allan Sheblom

Yep, if you buy a firewire adaptor it should work fine. You don't need a hardcore graphics cards.

I assume you are aware that DV takes about 13GB per hour of video, so you will need a fair amount of hard drive space. You can use WinDV for the FireWire transfer. Windows Movie Maker or VirtualDub can edit it and output as DV for conversion to a MPEG format. With VD you will need to install a DV codec for output. Cedocida DV Codec or the Panasonic DV codec will work.

    And welcome to our forums.
