    Hi everyone!

I was wondering what you think the best MPEG2 codec is (software)? Not nessasarily only for DVD creation, but also just for compressing, quality, etc. on the computer. Also, is there one that is more widespread/standard than all the others? I have read the info here, but it lists just a few MPEG2 codecs:

I've heard good things about nvidia's purevideo... sadly there were no comments for it @ the above link.

    What do ya'll use?

    TIA

I can't advise whether it's the best or not, but I use QuEnc to encode and it uses libavcodec from ffmpeg.org. I am very happy with the results I get.

    For encoding mpeg2 to mpeg1

Use avisynth script to feed mpeg2 source to bbmpeg , bbmpeg settings to mpeg1 , and go .

Checkout the forum , you should beable to find info on how this script is put together , it should be also in the avisynth folder , help files , take a look for directshowsource .

    Its reasonably fast .

The less process's involved , the better the outcome will be .
