Hi, I have been on this forum before, but that was so long ago that I'm not sure where to post this message, but I'll go straight to the

PROBLEM: I recently had a professional service transfer my ntsc tapes ont Region to DVDs which I then wanted to edit. Trouble is they didn't send me the mpeg or AVI files togeher with the dvds, so I have to rip them, and since I was told that DVDDecrypter was a good program I downloaded it and ripped the DVD and this gave me VIDEO_TS file containing several VOB, IFO, and BUP files.

I've had no problem playing the VOB files on PowerDVD. I first tried Nero (6.3 I think, but not sure) which nicely took it's time tranfering the ripped files which I could then play/edit, but there was no sound!! (eventhough I know the sound is there because it plays normally on PowerDVD).

As I am used to using Pinnacle Studio and recently purchased Studio 9, I tried to import these VOB files, but Pinnacle doesn't seem to recognise these files. Then I was told to simply rename the files as mpegs, but this didn't work either. Then I was told to download a copy of VOB2MPEG, which I did, but it wouldn't run, and I gave up in disgust. I also tried ripping the DVD using Nerom, which gave me an .nrg image file, but this too had no sound on it when playing on Nero

So the QUESTION is: How do I turn the DVD into an MPEG2 or 4 or AVI(which is better?) file so I can edit it in Piannacle Studio (Pinnacle Studio doesn't seem to be able to rip dvds, though I'm not sure of this) and remake a DVD? I don't care for menus or any fancy stuff, just want to chop off large chunks of the video I don't need and combine it with other similarly obtained files.

I bet you guys might have answered this same question a thousand times over, but I would really appreciate any help or a pointer that could get me going before I run headlong and crash into my computer screen at great speeds. Thanks!

And one more aside question, does this forum also deal with photography. For example, I have posted a few hundred Indian slides on eBay under the pseudonym of Polkudda. Would I be able to advertise this in one of the forums here with pictures and links? Thanks again..

did you get any error from vob2mpg? have you installed .net framework(it requires it)?

or convert to avi with https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=&s=&orderby=Name&hits=50&convert=DVD+to+AVI&...+or+List+tools or virtualdubmod,virtualdub-mpeg2 and open the vobs and cut and save as avi for editing in pinnacle.

You can also use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode and rip your vobs a number of different ways. Just tick the box to enable stream processing and in settings set file breaks to none in IFO mode. You can then rip the mpeg2 files or even the demux'd elementary streams if you want.

If you Have TMPEGEnc DVD Author, you can easily rip/convert the VOBs to MPEG2 Files. Just click the button that says "Add DVD video."
