    does anyone know a program that will compress mdf files i have tried winrar but the file will not compress the file is 4.8gb and i need it to be at most about 4.6 for fitting on disk.Any help would be great

    A mdf is a Alcohol 120% disc image, so, you can make it fit a DVD by just burning it. I don't think it's compressable using zip, rar & cetera.
    Alteratively, you can extract what's inside the image with IsoBuster (or mounting the image with daemon tools) and compress the files you find.
