Used VobBlanker for first time. The guide is practically useless for a lay person like myself who does not already have considerable knowledge about authoring. I don't even know what most of the terms used in the guide mean.

However, I went into Preview and cut, checked Cut Movie and OK on a bunch of stuff. Oddly it seemed to me, the Action Column continued to read "Keep".

I processed it the film, ran it through Shrink, and nothing was gone.

    Help appreciated. Thanks.

Video isn't easy. Everyone needs to learn that sooner or later.

Bury yourself in the glossary to the left. Or google.

Don't try and do too much too soon. Set yourself a goal, then state exactly what you have to start with, and what you'd like to achieve, and then people can give you some specific advice, reference perhaps more appropriate tools for the job and point you to better guides.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi Jim,
    That glossary will help.

What I want to do is use DVD ReBuilder Pro which I've used before. That part I am OK with. But first I want to remove some trailers and the FBI warnings etc. from the DVD. I just found out VobBlanker is what does that.

I have the DVD ripped with DeCrypter in File Mode.

Maybe Part 2 of https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=716#716 will be more helpful ?

You've already done part 1 by ripping, and you are doing part 3 an alternative way as well.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Hi-

However, I went into Preview and cut, checked Cut Movie and OK on a bunch of stuff. Oddly it seemed to me, the Action Column continued to read "Keep".

I think what you want to do is to hit the "Blank" button to blank out the stuff you don't want. You'll see it change from "Keep" to "Blank", and up at the top right you'll see the final size shrink.

So, to flesh it out a bit more. Click on the VTS you want to examine. It'will open in the lower screen with the PGCs it contains. Preview each PGC if you wish to examine it to determine if you want to keep it or get rid of it. Then hit "Blank" for the ones you want to get rid of. Repeat for each VTS. If you want to get rid of some audio streams from the main movie, then hit "Strip" and uncheck the audio you don't want. With experience you'll see there are many more useful things it can do.

I think your thread title is misleading at best. VobBlanker works fine. You just don't know how to work it (yet).

  7. Tom,

All I did after ripping the DVD in File mode with DVD Decrypter, was to open Vob Blanker, select my input (the VIDEO_TS.IFO file you just ripped), and create an output folder for the new "rip" (you should create a new folder for this, preferably on a seperate HD if you have one), and hit process.

Viola! You have a new file that can be shrunk/re-authored with DVD Shrink.

    Hi nord.

I have Decrypter, Vob, and Shrink and could do that. I also have DVDRebuilder Pro and if I have to compress in Shrink to lower than 80% and definately if lower than 70ish % I would like to use Rebuilder- it's supposed to be better. Maybe I'll try them both and compare them. I also have two HDs so I'll use both.

But what is the benefit of just processing the file through VobBlanker if you didn't blank or cut anything????? Does it take anything out automatically?

  9. Hi-

There can be a benefit sometimes. For example, there is sometimes unreferenced material on the DVD, just clogging it up for no good reason (unless it's perhaps to make the backup look like garbage). I've seen black screen menus on several occasions, sometimes as large as 500 MB. You don't take them out by processing through VobBlanker, they'll negatively affect the quality of your backup.

I don't use DVD Shrink, ever, for anything, so I can't speak to the benefit of running the vobs through VB before opening them in Shrink for further processing.
