  1. After capturing video via VHS, or live TV, the image looks great with the exception that any quick movement in the picture seems to result in "roughness" around the egdes of the image. For example, if a person is running across the frame of the picture, the outline of the person appears "jagged" or blurred a bit. In a frame where there is little or no movement, the problem does not appear visible. Is this what is referred to as interlacing? Looking at this web site, the problem looks like the third example on the page:

    http://www.100fps.com/

I am capturing using WinTV2000 with a Hauppauge 350 PVR.

    Questons:

Can I remove this interlacing effect on existing captured files?
Is there a way to reduce or eliminate this artifact all together?
Are the solutions listed on the web page I posted the best ways to handle this problem?

Interlacing is normal. A computer monitor does not interlace and that's why you see the rough edges. When you burn to a dvd and play on a TV screen, the image will appear normal.

  3. Thanks! Yes, I see that after burning and playing on the TV the problem no longer exists!

It's not horrible, but if there is some sort of program that could improve the picture re: interlacing that would be great!

For the computer the best solution is a deinterlacing video player such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. Often a reduced feature version of one or the other is supplied with a DVD player or a DVD writer. Check your CD.

If all you wanted to do is watch on a computer, you could encode it progressive but that would seriously lower quality when played to a TV.
