Mount the ISO with daemon tools.
From then on, it's just a std DVD to VCD conversion for which many guides have been written.

  3. Hi Mats, thanks for the quick response. I did what you told me. I downloaded and install daemon tools...but when it loads up it says "invalid device".

For your information, I am using Pentium Celeron P2.4Ghz running on Win NT.

So, you say as soon as you start daemon tools, it stops with the error message you give? Or is it when you try to mount the ISO? What version of NT are you on? If 4, I hate to say this, but you really should get W2000 (NT5) or XP Pro (NT 5.1). Not much that supports NT4 these days...
Daemon tools has always worked for me. But there are other "virtual CD/DVD" applications out there - Nero comes with one.

  5. yup it pops up the msg each time my pc starts up. I installed it in another Win2K machine and it works fine. So I believe it is something to do with Win NT.

You mentioned there are others virtual vcd/dvd apps out there...can you name a few. Nero I have version 6 but where do I get that application which you are saying?

Did you seriously say you "downloaded" a DVD ISO - Public domain file I assume right?

Try Alcohol 120% as well to mount and process the now accessible DVD however you wish.

Please dude, never say "i downloaded this or that" say simply that you have a file that I want to,,,,,,

In Nero, I think it's called "Nero Image Drive" or something similar. A quick google for "virtual DVD" turned up this...

Yes, you are. "Downloaded" is not a violation of AUP. (Even if it adds nothing to help solving the issue.) Do you always go up to people and tell them you suspect they've nicked the jacket they are wearing in the street?

If the tag is still hanging then yes

Do you seriously believe that a downloaded ISO of DVD that someone is so feverishly trying to convert to something playable is not a commercial movie? I don't think it is a documentary of the mating habits of the blue whale capture from the BBC!

We have developed this "Look the other way" attitude around here lately.

    I'm sure you do.

It's of no significance what you or I believe/think or not. It's what's stated. And what the mods read into it. Until Baldric puts "Don't mention 'downloaded' in subject and/or text" into the AUP, it should be fine with everyone.
I think there's developed a "mod wannabe" attitude lately...

I think you're asking too much of the VCD format. It's the lowest acceptable standard there is, when it comes to video - at best like a slightly worn VHS tape. Making that full screen on a high def computer monitor brings out all the ugliness.
VCD is a tight standard, and there is not much to do to tweak the output, than to have the best source material available, like a DVD.
EazyVCD is rumored to be one of the best DVD to VCD allinone converters there is.
Try it on your TV - that's what VCD is intended for. It will not look as bad as on the monitor.
If your goal is to play it on the computer, go for AVI XviD or DivX.
Best mpg1 encoder (subjective judgement, I know!) is TMPGEnc, but then you have to take a lot of steps both before encoding and after, in the process from DVD to VCD. Which, is described in the guides.
