  1. Hey,
I got this short clip and I would like the last frame to last for another 2 seconeds (or a bit less).
What I mean is, I want it to last as a still image for just another 1-2 seconeds.
It's a avi file, and I tried looking for ways to do it with VirtualDub but with no success..

Anyone know a way to do so .. ?

    Thanks

The only way I can think of using only Virtualdub would be to "Copy Source Frame To Clipboard", open Paint and paste it, then save it 60 times with progressive names (Clip00.bmp, Clip01.bmp, etc.) Then load the first clip in Virtualdub, it should load all 60 pictures. Then save as avi using the same compression and settings as the original clip. Then open the original clip and then append the clip you just made.

But it would be easier to use ImageSource in AviSynth.

No need with AVISynth since you can just use loop to loop the frame whatever number of times.

Select the frame you want with the markers (hotkeys Home=Startframe and End=Endframe) , then go to the Edit menu select Copy (Ctrl+C) and then press Ctrl+V to paste it to the timeline as many times as you wish .

Presumably that would only work for a keyframe and I am not even sure you can do it with a single frame selection.

@gadgetguy, you should read the docs that come with it.

Well I just picked a frame at random and pasted (25 times) it on the end 3 times , once in an mpg and twice in an avi . I just did it (as I did it before my first post) .

Remember you need to press the right cursor key once after pressing Home to advance it one frame before you press End (it will tell you that you have selected one frame) then Copy the frame . You then need to go to the last frame and press Home to set the Paste point , then press CRTL+V to paste the frames .

AVIsynth is a very powerful method of editing/processing your video but I really never had the inclination or desire to learn its language (it runs on scripts and so has a learning/boredom curve to it) when my criteria was acceptable quality , trying to get the best out of video but restricted by bitrate I felt wasnt the best scenario , with the arrival of dvd-recorders my needs are now met with my dvd-recorder .

Good idea. I didn't even realize that docs came with it. I thought it was all on-line which is primarily a command reference so I've only been reading up on a few commands at a time as I try to accomplish specific goals. Even so with all the available commands, I'm not sure I'll ever know them all.

@ Somebla: If you're struggling with AviSynth, you might be better off using an NLE (Non-Linear Editing) video editor. There's a few that are free (Avid Free DV and Zwei-Stein to name a couple), and some that are inexpensive that may well have the functionality to do the job.

NLE's are specifically designed for this kind of work, whereas VirtualDub is more of a video processor (filters, compression etc.) rather than an editor (making changes to the content, beyond just making cuts).

I use Premiere Pro 1.5, and so don't know the others, but I'd be surprised if one of them didn't do it. Using Premiere would be overkill for what you want to do. You'll need to have a read and dome some experimenting / trialling.

Depending on the tool(s) you look at, there may be a specific option to freeze the last (or first) frame of a clip and it'll show for the duration of the clip. The other way to do it is to seperate the last frame from the clip and then give that single frame a duration of 1 - 2 seconds, as required. I would hope that this latter way is supported by the simplest of NLE's - i.e. its possible and simple.

    Good luck.
