    Hey Guys,

I want to capture about 5 seconds of a DVD film to use as an avator. Is this possible to do? If so how would I do it?

Do a Google search for 'animated gifs'. That's assuming you want a moving avatar. You should find programs and methods to use. I cheated, I found mine on a website.

You should also find some ways to convert to animated gif format. Be aware of the size limitation if you want to use it here.

You will need to create an animated GIF out of the video frames. There probably are some programs out there that will do that for you, do a search.

Or you can do it manually, by extracting the frames with Virtualdub. Then creating tha animated GIF using those frames in PhotoShop/ImageReady or other good Image editor.

    Thanks for all replies.

It is from the original BraveHeart DVD.

All I want is to do to capture to part where Willam Wallaces sword is thrown throught the air and lands in the ground. Capture these few secs then compress the size....I think!

I downloaded Virtual dub and tried animation shop, but cant seem to open It so I can see the frames to capture. Could this be because it is copyrighted?

    Any more advice?

You'll need to rip the dvd to the Hard Drive. Download Virtualdub-mpeg2. Drag the VOB into Virtualdub-mpeg2, set the IN and OUT points. Then export frame sequense. This will save all selected frames as BMP or TGA.
