Textsub is now (and has been for some years) part of vsfilter. I would suggest using that instead of the old textsub plugin.

No idea if textsub is causing the crash though.

  3. celtic_druid, How do you get VOBSub working with VirtualDub?

You could remove the TextSub filter and still see if VDub still crashes.

VSFilter contains both textsub and vobsub. You could also use the ffdshow plugin.

To install VSFilter, rename it to vsfilter.vdf (from vsfilter.dll) and place in the plugin dir. Textsub and VOBSub should now show up in VDub.

nope its not the textsub filter,i tried it again without it and it still crashes,i also have downloaded other virtualdub versions but this ones keep telling me when i load my video that "virtualdub has detected an improper vbr audio encoding in the source avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard cbr values during processing for better compatibility",how can i fix that? because the virtualdub that keeps telling me that can save the avi with the filter ok and all that.

About the VBR mp3, use VirtualDubMod.

You could also try updating XviD:

That looks like a viable solution as well, as Xvid seems to be up Core Version 2.1.

Also, find a sound editor like Gold Wave, then make a separate sound file to add to your final video.

  11. I had a similar problem when I tried to use XviD. VirtualDubMod gave me an Error message when i tried to "Save as Avi". Make sure when you choose XviD and then click on Configure, that the Encoding type is Single Pass. (that's what solve my problem).
    Hope that helps.
    Bye

The first thing to try is just ignoring the message. It might save the audio just fine.

If the audio gets out of sync, turn on Audio -> Full Processing Mode, select an audio compression codec and encode again.

If the audio is still out of sync then turn on Audio -> Full Processing Mode and save the audio as a WAV file. Then use that WAV file as the audio source.

If even that doesn't work, use another program to extract the audio from the AVI as a WAV file. Then use that WAV file as the audio source.

Vdub's and VDubMod's messages are not the same. VDubMod gives you a chance to leave the VBR header, VDub does not.

You're getting uncompressed RGB when you select Full Processing Mode. Select a video compression codec if you want something smaller.

If you use the plugin via AVISynth instead you can set it to fast recompress.

The codec that you select depends entirely on what you want at the end. If you are doing hard subs for a standalone AVI/MPEG4 player, then you would have to select a compatible codec (XviD, DivX, libavcodec, skal, HDX4, etc.) if you are just wanting to save an avi to then convert to something else then you should use a lossless codec (FFV1, huffyuv, VBLE, etc.) or better yet don't save anything, just frameserve.
