Which DVD Recorders will now support Dual/Double writing? Also, are there going to be firmware upgrades that will allow older machines to write to DL discs? Thanks!

Take a look here,
https://www.videohelp.com/dvdrecorders
and regarding firmware upgrades, this will not happen because the Dual Layer burners are designed to burn to dual layer from the outset unlike single layer burners.

Pioneer models:

Most LG models support dual format and +R dual layer and Divx.
Only gripe I have about LG - once main power off, clock and all schedule programming are gone ! -
