  1. Having got myself a DVD Recorder now, I have used this for a couple of off air captures that I wanted to keep.

As the capture was a 16:9 resolution, using TMPGEnc DVD Author, I converted the DVD to a MPEG file.

Next stage I used DVD Patcher to convert the MPEG to 16:9.

I then used TMPGEnc Plus to convert the video to M2V and used DVD2AVI to demux the audio to WAV (as I am using TMPGEnc DVD Author, I know that it won't accept the AC3 audio track from the ripped MPEG).

    So far so good.

Now to re-author: TMPGEnc DVD Author accepts either the MPEG or the M2V file and accepts the WAV. However, in this particular instance, the TMPGEnc DVD Author is telling me that the combined files are too big for the DVD using either the M2V or the MPEG!

The MPEG came off a DVD, it should be rights go back on again!

What is it that I have missed?

  2. Check and see what the output size limit is on dvdauthor, it may be smaller than the max capacity of a blank disk. You can run dvdauthor and tell it too ignore to oversize error and use a separate burner to burn the file(s) and you may find it will burn with no problem. Lastly you can always run the result through dvdshrink to get a file of the correct size. Nyah Levi

  3. Thanks Nyah.

The total for the film was very very close to the DVD capacity, so I didn't want to chance it. However, in a further search I can accross this thread:

I tried to author a DVD just by using the original MPEG file and not worry about the wav etc. The outputted VOBs have a soundtrack. Now reading the threads on this site, I was led to believe that without the AC3 plug in I would get a silent video.

I now see that the AC3 issue is only to hear the audio in the editing stage.
