I have 2 large/long avi's that I want to put onto DVD(each) so they are watchable, with a menu if if possible but if its not its no biggie. The files are 4 hours long and just under 2 gig each.I have been using VSO avi to dvd for this kind of thing but once I converted one of the avi's it came out around 9 gig I tried to use DVD shrink but when I pointed it to the video_ts folder it just came up with an error. So would it be possible and if so whats the easiest method to use?

    Thanks!!

  2. I'd encode with a MPEG2 Encoder with a lower bitrate and use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the DVD files. Then if too large use DVDShrink.

Update:I use the Mainconcept MPEG Encoder,it gives you an estimate of the final file size when adjusting the bitrate

Or of course use a bitrate calculator.

First thing - are your AVIs DivX or XviD ? Do you have a DivX-capable player ? Do you want this playable in all DVD players ?

8 hours on a DVD is really, really stretching things IMO ... you'd need to use 352x240/288, and a bitrate of around 1000kbps (assuming 224kbps audio) to fit on a 4.7GB DVDR.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might help you with the conversion process.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Heres the stats of my vids, I want to put them on a DVD each(4 hours per DVD)and have them watchable on all DVD players, is this doable?

    Thanks

Its probably to do with the length of my avis.

So what do you guys think, is there an easy way of me putting 4 hours of video thats decent(doesnt have to be great)quality onto DVD?

Encode with tmpgenc to 352x480/576 using 2300kbps 2pass variable bitrate and 192kbps audio, then author. This will give you 4 hours on one dvd with decent quality
as long as it isnt sports or fast events.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
