  1. On rare occasions when backing up one of my DVDs the following happens...

I use Fast DVD Copy with my Mini Mac.
The original plays fine in my DVD player, Xbox, and Mac.
    The backup copy...
-Gets error message in DVD player "wrong region"
-Xbox gives message that it's got parental controls, I must choose "Yes" before I can play the movie...but it plays.
    -Mac plays movie fine.

    Any ideas

  2. You might want to try some different software. I know that you are used to what you use, but there are better ways to go about it.

Usually I use Mac the Ripper(you can find @ www.versiontracker.com). Then from there I use DVD2ONEX(dont know if I had to pay for it or not cant remember, its cheap and worth it either way). From DVD2ONEX it sizes it down AND can make an image for you, in which you can burn that image using DISK UTILITY(as found under, APPLICATIONS>UTILITIES>DISK Utility...
    Thanks

It's 50 Euros, which doesn't seem particularly cheap. It's more expensive than all of its competitors. On the other hand a lot of people (myself included) think it's the best.

CopyProtected Discs you legally own, no.
MTR and DVD2ONEX, as thoughton and Scott
pointed out, are a winning combination.

Both are regualrly updated ( hello GB!)
to handle most new problems in making backups.

  6. You misunderstand me.

    1st. Yes I own all dvd's I back up.

My backup software was working great...then I did 2 things.
    1. After having a problem with my iPod Apple had me reset my mac by holding the power button while it booted up (or something...I'm fussy now).
    2. Upgraded to Tiger

Now my DVD burner thinks all backups are for someone in China. There has to be a way to reset my DVD's Region setting which is now set to the region where mini mac's are made.

Take an orignal, factory DVD you own, stick it in
the DVD drive, and launch DVD player.

DVD Player, if it has been re-set like you say,
should prompt you to re-set the region to
the region 1. Click ok, and the drive will be
    set to region 1.

then, eject the factory dvd, then insert a backup.
    What happens then?
