My computer freezes everytime i watch ANY video at all. this started this May and it's annoying me cos i keep restarting. I thought it was because of the k-lite codec pack i installed, so i removed it. nothing happened. it would still freeze on me.

a week ago, i had my computer reformatted. and it would still freeze on me. i did a virus check, clean. i did a spyware check, clean. i uninstalled k-lite again and i dont have any installed video codec, and just before this post, my computer froze. it only happens when im watching videos.

any ideas? i'm sending my pc back to the repair center over the weekend, it's just frustrating because my PC is only 5 months old and it's already acting up like an old woman.

    PC details:

P4 2.8 HT GHz 512 MB DDR RAM Radeon Video Card 2 80GB HDD Pinnacle TV Tuner Win XP SP2

I would stay away from codec packs, but I don't think that has much to do with your present problem. (But almost guaranteed to cause future problems if you put the whole thing in there. Only install what you need when you need it.)

Anyway, does it freeze when doing anything else or only playing videos? If so, it would point to your video card or possibly a fault with the motherboard. You should have had the latest drivers with a new computer.

It's probably the best move to send it to a repair facility, as it sounds like a defect that would be covered by warranty.

  3. Check your temperatures, it could be a heat problem if you get constant rebootings.

It could be a driver problem.

Do you have the latest drivers?

How many programs are running in the background?

Are you using the xp graphic interface or the classic interface?

Those are just a few of the many things that it could be.

I bet this is right. 10 to 1 your CPU is overheating.
