I have had a Sony DVD RW DW-D22A for about a month now and I use it to backup my DVDs and make copies for myself. However, as of thursday, whenever I try to burn a DVD to DVDR using CloneDVD, it stats burning, and halfway or a little more through the process, it stops and said there was an error, probably due to a media problem. I use Memorex DVD+R and it just stopped working, i tried some other kind of DVD+R that i found in my house, Dynex i think, and the same thing happened.
What do you think is wrong? Is it something to do with the DVD writer or is it bad media or something else? Any help would be appreciated. Could it also be the file that i'm burning? I keep trying to copy the same Movie file. If the file didn't copy properly could that be a factor as well?
Thanks!

Suggestions.
1. Change media. You may have had a bad batch.
2. A possibility:- is that the writer is faulty. May have problem with laser burning to disc. This has happened to me but it was with a right piece of s**t called BTC. Can't speak for Sony, using Liteon-excellent burner.
3. Invest in a few RW discs!!!!!!!! This will save you loads of cash for problem cases-Trust me!!!!
There maybe more technical reasons for it but quite often it is the simplest steps to try first!! -
I dont use CloneDVD myself so not to familiar with it, but, are you doing a direct disc-to-disc copy or are you ripping it to the hard drive first ?
If the original disc is damaged or has a bad sector and you are doing a direct disc-to-disc copy, it could be that the software is having a problem getting past this 'bad' area.
I would suggest giving DVDdecrypter and DVDshrink a try.
They are both freeware and both work great and are easy to use.
Rip your DVD to the hard drive first using DVDdecrypter, then use DVDshrink to compress or edit your final backup DVD.
If you find that your original DVD is damaged, try reading it in a different drive as sometimes a different drive will be able to 'Read' the damaged area better than others.
Check out the GUIDES section and you will find plenty of help with these programs I have suggested.
Good luck -
hi, I'm using WinAVI DVD Copy which works very great! You can download a free trial version to have a try.
By the way, it can be downloaded from

Agree with Harryspadge.
Quite often you can simply open the disc in DVD Shrink and go straight to burning without using DVD Decrypter.
Just open up Shrink. Go to Open disc. Shrink will then analyse movie ( approx 1 min) and then auto compress movie for you. You can then decide to back up to HD or Back up and burn with DVD Decrypter.
DVD Shrink will also remove copy protection at the same time.
