  1. i've done a fair amount of conversion to vcd/dvd formats, using tmpg mainly, and i'd say i was fairly good at getting good results first time

i have a wmv file which is about 2hrs 10mins long, and plays fine in WMP.

i tried converting it in tmpg, and it seemed to be going ok until it hit 95%, when everything slowed down. my pc isnt very fast anyway (amd 1200) so 7 hours to convert a 2 hour film, using tmpg, is normal - but when it got to 95% it took another 2 days to do the last 5%. when it finally finished, the last 5% of the converted file was just a black screen.

i tried winavi converter, and that has also got stuck at 95%.

i tried vso divx-to-dvd and that won't even read the file, it appears corrupted right from the start.

    any suggestions ?

  2. oh and i should have mentioned - the edit window in tmpg where you mark the start/end points, shows the video fine, all the way to the end.

  4. i'll try that, thanks.

why is it that any effective conversion requires about 5 tools?

  5. no that doesnt work. the 'repaired' file is only 21 meg, instead of 1.5 gig like the original.

ASF Tools can also be used to verify/repair the file.
