I am looking to find, or possibly create, a tv-listing/scheduling application to work "on top of" the MMC app of my ATI card. I am extremely happy with the quality I am getting from the ATI/MMC software, and the ability to customize record settings and even the videosoap filter. however as is well known the MMC interface itself is bad and the guide-plus softwar included is bad.
I am using my TV for output and need an app that is "readable" on my TV screen. I am considering writing my own app to use XMLTV data for the listings, however I need a way to then place the scheduled recordings into the MMC database. I would prefer to find an existing app, however I have seen nothing that is TV-viewable and also works with the ATI/MMC.
I would appreciate any assistance on either an app that can utilize XMLTV listings and schedule into the MMC app (and is TV-viewable and NOT a strictly windows-desktop app), or else a help/tutorial on writing scheduled-recording direct into the MMC database.

BeyondTV, while it has a very nice interface and scheduling ability, does not integrate with the ATI MMC and produces much lower-quality recordings than the MMC, even when the record settings have been customized to match those I have set within the MMC. beyondTv is really optimized to use pentium chips and hardware-based encoding.
I am looking for an option that will integrate the recording into the MMC sheduled-record database, or else code or a module I can use within my own app that will write into the MMC scheduled-record database.

My AIW 9700pro came with GuidePlus. Do you not have that option?
EDIT - Nevermind. I missed the part where you already stated that you don't like that software. -
You can also get that TVTV software, or whatever it's called. An alternative to GuidePlus.

Just guessing here, but if the software uses XML, could you not port the TV listings from zap2it?

I use www.tvguide.com ... and use my remote for my DVD Recorders to record them shows.

If you say you are having problems with your captures using ATI AIW, then buy a dedicated (hardware) based card like a Win PVR 150/250 etc. I use Guide Plus and have never had a problem with using the scheduler. Everthing works just fine!

it would appear the point of my original query has been lost. I dont have a problem with the Guide-Plus not working, nor with my captures not working. My problem is, I need a TV-Listing/Recording-Scheduler that I can view and use from my TV screen. Guide-Plus is NOT viewable and usable from a TV-screen. I cannot use TitanTV or TV-Guide websites for the same reason.
I am using myHTPC and use the "EPG TV Plugin for ATI" and it works - to a point. I want the ability to schedule "season passes" and the ability to set future recording based on keywords (such as "DUNE" for any future show/movie that has "dune" in titles or keyword)...
I want a program that will write scheduled recordsing direct into the MMC scheduled-recording datavase, like "EPG TV Plugin for ATI"m currently does but with the added feature already mentioned. I would be willing to write this myself if I could be pointed to help in HOW to write the scheduled-recordings into the MMC database.
I have seen a tv-module here that does this but it requires IIS and PHP to be installed. I dont want all that baggage for one "simple" feature.

What does mmc use for it's database? Does it get the listings, then make an XML file for your PVR software?

I am not sure what it is using. I have searched unsuccessfully for info on this. If I could find out about the MMC database for scheduled-recordings, I would then be able to write directly into it and write the top-level app to do what I need.Originally Posted by reboot

I just wish the TV listings would update automatically. I am tiered of having to run the Guide Plus. I don't have a monitor hooked up to my media center, just my TV. Another thing I would like fixed in MMC is the capture settings. I wish I could change to divx, mpg2, dvd, mpg1 from ez look. I don't mean the basic settings, I mean the bit rates and all.

yeah, amazing that ATI can create really great (imho) hardware but such crappy software. those same reasons are why i want an external app to do the listings and place the scheduled-recordingsOriginally Posted by dun4cheap

Have you expressed your opinions to ATI? Or are you using this forum to express your disgust with ATI software? Those of us with ATI MMC and Guide Plus share your pain. AIW does not optimize as a solution IMO. It's somewhat useful but misses the mark mostly.Originally Posted by pglenn
ATI at least listens to the Rage3D forum. Good place to vent.
I hope you report back any solutions they can suggest.

I am SO glad to hear I'm not alone!
If I understand you correctly, you are looking for an app I just wrote... and I'm looking for alpha testers... let me know if this fits the bill, ok?
