  1. I think i may have a double sided dual layer disk if that's even possible. I want to make a copy of shindler's list and it's a double sided dvd. I use dvddecryptor to get side 1 which syas it's 8 gigs on it's own. I flip it over and it says 8 gigs on the second side as well. Unfortunatly i dont have that kind of space on my hard drive. I tried looking at a guide where it said to have one side on the hdd and one run off the dvd-rom for dvdshrink to read off of while making it a 4.7 gig disc, but that failed when it came time to read off the dvd i think. It gave me some protection error. Any ideas on what i could do here?

  2. You want to put both sides on one DVD-5 (4.35 gigs)?

Don't do that. Treat each side as a separate disc and make 1 DVD-R of each side.

  3. DVD Decrypter on side 1, then use DVD Shrink. Do the same thing to side 2. Burn each one.

Or use DVD Shrink for the movie only for both side 1 & 2 to get better compression. You could combine them after this in DVD Shrink again and put them both on one disk. I did it with Schindler's List, but I burned to a dual layer disk. You might be able to do it to a single layer, but my guess is that the compression would be too much and it would not look too good.

I've always thought the best solution (for compatibility - since dual layer DVDs are somehow a headache - and quality) is to use DVD Shrink to re-author and to split the movie to fit on 2 single layer discs. If you're compressing with DVD Shrink you should not compress more than 20%, that means using a file at 80% of its original size (DVD Shrink will show you 80% = that means 20% of compression). Please note that this is intended to backup your own DVDs.
