I bought a 5 port workgroup switch to use with my cable router. One of my ports on the cable router doesn't work so I figured I could use the uplink port and connect that to the uplink port of the 5 port workgroup switch. The problem I am having is it doesn't work. I can't get any internet connection. I'm new to networking pc's. I thought it would be a simple task.![]()
I have 4 pc's, 3 of them are running windows 2000 pro and 1 has xp pro. Do I use a network cat 5 cable or just the regular cat5 cable for the uplink port? I'm using just the regular cat 5 cable. I'm totally confused and would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!![]()

You need to use a crossover cable from the uplink to the switch. if my memory serves me correctly.
