    Greetings .....

Certainly we have some folks here experienced with the Linksys WRT54G/WRT54GS wireless routers. If so, can you give me a brief step-by-step run-thru of how to set-up and use the device. I have both a desktop and a laptop. Keep each step as brief and as simple as you can. Including cautions and warnings if you feel that such are warranted.

    Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Video

    Greetings ...

Yes - but I was seeking the experiences of others, in case they had a method of installation worth trying.

Yep ... the old excuse gets thrown about too often when users ask for help.

    Include

    1: Desktop, laptop os's
    2: Modem make and model.

Are these systems to share files / folders / printers / internet access

Its not hard to setup but sometimes devices make communications difficult which is when you need a hand.

  5. Are you having trouble getting it out of the cardboard box, or is maybe the power cord installation defeating you?

I'm sorry, but these are just about as plug-and-play as you could ask for. Most common problem I see is that you need to cut power to most cable modems for a minute or so before connecting, as cable modems often "lock on" to the first hardware device they see and that memory must be cleared.

They usually work without even hitting the setup page. Exactly what sort of problem are you experiencing?

For a small network, use static IP's rather than DHCP. One less failure point.

It's is pretty much operational right out of the box. For the wireless, you can run the setup wizard.

Step-by-step setup (with pictures) is included on the Quick Setup sheet.

Aside from the, it's also covered in the manual.

Set it up, if something doesn't work, come back and ask.

I just purchased mine last week. I have the WRT54G2.

I don't recommend using the CD as it would not connect with the laptop.

Just connect the router to the computer and open your internet browser. Enter 192.168.1.1 and do your set up manually.

  8. My experience: overall no problems except for one - at about 8pm every night, the network dies for 3 - 4 mins. Doesn't matter if it's daylight savings time or not, whether I reset it, disconnect every computer from it, disconnect it from the internet. Like clockwork. When it craps out, I look at the clock - 8pm give or take a few minutes.

    Greetings ....

Thanks to all for the tips. I am without a desktop PC at the moment, but when I can have one again, then I'll set up my wireless network.

My laptop crashed a few weeks ago and I just got an HP Pavilion Elite m9500t desktop. It is a customized desktop purchased from HP. It is a fast desktop. I customized mine with Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Intel Core 2 Quad (2.5 GHz), 3GB RAM, and 256MB NVIDIA graphics card. After the 15% off coupon code, it was $685 (shipping included). Took about a week to receive my computer. I have been using it for a week now and I am satisfied. Compare to my laptop, this desktop is very quiet. My only complaint is that after the case is opened to install components, it is dificult to get it to close.
