(title change since I'm waiting at my home bored for them to arrive)
(2nd title change) see 2nd page.
(chaned title one last time now that I'm installed... fuckers)

Soon as I'm done dancing like a monkey for them.

The antenna for the wireless broadband is like 1 mile away though a clear field in plain site. Yet I have to fill out a request for site survey, WAIT for them to come test to "Be sure" (even though one of their own guys before said "yeah man you got it if your that close") then wait in line ÅGAIN for installion.

total expected time until the install? 2 weeks.

Also its not the company I wanted so its pretty slow broadband AND expensive. $75/mo for 512k/512k. Its the best I can do though.

    Hello,

    Welcome to the club Flaystus

That's not bad. My land line DSL is 300k. But still a zillion times better than dial up

I have 3mbps/768kbps DSL for $29.99 a month with free router. I don't know why you guys are paying so much.

    Hello,

I'm paying $20/mos with SBC for 300k. A friend of mine who's several miles away says he can get 500k down with the same service. He's obviously closer to the server

Well the OTHER wireless company that I can't get a clear line of site with is 3mb/1.5mb for $60/mo. And I know they are an excellent company with good customer service.

This one is expensive, and even though 512 IS a good upload, its a sucky download for broadband. I'm used to 3mb - 6m for broadband depending whos house I'm at

DSL is dependant upon your distance from your TELCO's central office, and the condition of your loop (load coils, bridgetaps, etc...other variables can affect this as well) A clean loop under 10,000 feet will most easily handle up to 1.5mbs and possibly 3mbs depending on other factors. Traditionaly 18,000 feet has been the cut off for offering DSL at "consistant" 768kbs on twisted copper, however, some providers attempt to push this upper limit. Sometimes they are succesfull and other times they are not. I say "consistant" because you can push 3mbs on an 18,000 ft loop, however, you will have modem sync issues and capacitance balances near 100% which will burn out your modem after a while. Plus it will frustrate the hell out of the user!

    $75/month for home internet?

Sounds like you have got money to burn.

Not really. Sometimes, we need it for our professions. Then, we just have to pay whatever it costs. $75/mo for 512/512 is definately steep though. I was in a small town outside of Austin, and got cable internet for $45/month 1.5M/512K In northern Cal. I've got DSL 3M/512K for $39.

A poor choice of words on my part...A clean loop "AT" 10,000 feet..." 6mbs is only possible at distances under 1 mile (at best) or if fiber is used at some point.

    Ahso....

Well $75/month IS steep.I freely admit that, and I don't general have money to burn, but when it comess to internet its an exception. Whatever I have to pay that is under $100/month will be paid. End of story, I've missed my old cable modem for 5 years now. It should be legal to murder the phone company from nonDSL induced stress.

    Hello Everybody:

By the time all the taxes, modem rental & all, I pay Mediacom $50 a month, only 1 cable provider per area in our town. They do have a monopoly...

But my speeds are pretty decent.
